The Nature Connection Mentor will facilitate the children’s program on a family song circle river retreat September 21-30, 2020 with The River’s Path and MaMuse.

The River’s Path is a company with a vision: We are dedicated to personal transformation through deep nature connection experiences. We are a woman owned canoe outfitter based in Berthoud, Colorado. We facilitate half day and full day river trips east of Longmont Colorado and week long transformational canoe retreats near Moab in the canyons of Utah.

JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Nature Connection Mentor is responsible for the development and facilitation of a children’s nature connection program on a week long river retreat in Labyrinth Canyon of the Green River in Utah. We will have 6-10 children from 4-12 years of age. Parents will be on the trip as well, so some activities will be facilitated by MaMuse for all ages. The ideal candidate will have a background working with children in music, art, and nature connection with some experience canoeing on rivers. The best candidate for this position must embrace The River’s Path’s (TRP) vision and mission and must have the experience and leadership skills to work with clientele and other staff from diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include but not limited to:

  • Nature Connection Mentor will be the primary facilitator for nature connection, art, and music activities on the Circles of Song Canoe Retreat with MaMuse.
  • Curriculum development for the children’s program on the trip
  • Assist with logistics, kitchen management, camp setup, and canoe guiding.
  • Ensure children’s safety and enjoyment in a desert/river environment.
  • Manage unexpected situations on the river: safety considerations, accidents, interpersonal challenges, and changing weather conditions

REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS:

Current driver’s license with clean driving record, Wilderness First Responder, CPR

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Training as a Nature Connection Mentor
  • Experience in facilitating nature, art, and music programs for children
  • Experience in river canoeing
  • Able to lift 80lb canoes with assistance
  • Comfortable with collaboration and deep open communication

PREFERRED:

  • BA/BS in Environmental Studies, education, biology, or related field.
  • Naturalist background
